8 Common Misconceptions About Private Jet Charter
In the age of COVID-19, more people are turning to private jet charter as a means of traveling safely. In fact, in a survey, 90% of new and existing fliers say they will travel by private jet and 72% say they are doing so to reduce the possibility of exposure to COVID-19.
Have you ever thought about flying private but one of those misconceptions about private jet charter stopped you?
Keep reading as we bust 8 myths about private jet charter here!

1. You have to be super rich to charter a private jet.
One of the biggest misconceptions about private jet charter is that you have to be amongst the world’s 1% of wealthy individuals to afford it.
Buying a private jet will set you back several million dollars, not to mention maintenance and running costs. However, chartering a private jet is a much less expensive endeavor.
Private jet charter flights can actually be very affordable, particularly if you split the cost between a group and fill all seats on the plane. But don’t worry, even a full private jet will never be packed like a commercial airline.
2. Private jets aren’t safe.
While commercial airlines are well-known and their track record for safety is very public, private jet companies are more niche. This can make some fliers nervous because they don’t know who they’re dealing with.
In reality, when you work with a reputable charter company, rest assured that your plane will be subject to rigorous checks before each flight. Additionally, private jets tend to be newer and more well-maintained. On top of that, with COVID-19 health concerns, flying private is even safer than commercial airlines because you are exposed to far fewer people both in the airport and on the plane.
3. Private jets are slow.
Most people assume commercial airlines go faster than private jets. After all, those airlines have massive jet engines designed to lift that beast up in the air and get it to its destination on time.
Let’s just bust that misconception for you right here. While individual planes/models will vary, commercial airlines generally fly between about 460 and 575 mph.
That sounds really fast, but would you like to guess how fast private jets go?
There is more variance in the speed of a private jet since the size and design can vary much more. However, on average, private jets zip along at the opposite of a snail’s pace at 604 mph. The fastest private jet in the world, the Cessna Citation X+ nearly breaks the sound barrier at Mach 0.935, which is about 717 mph!
On top of the speed of the plane, you’ll also get to board your plane much quicker. There are no long security lines to deal with and no waiting at the gate. When it’s time to board you won’t have to wait around for several hundred people to board and get settled.

4. Private jets means small planes.
While private jets most certainly can be small planes, light jets aren’t the only type of jet you can charter. You can charter every type of plane from a turboprop to an ultra-long-range. You can even hire an airliner if you want to!
For example, if you want to charter a flight from New York to Tokyo, you’ll need a plane that can handle the distance. This will usually be a heavy jet or an ultra-long-range.
The bottom line is that there are plenty of choices and you can pick the best type of plane that will work for your route and schedule.
5. Chartering a private jet is complicated.
You already know how easy it is to book a commercial flight. You get online, look at the list of available flights, and choose the one you want. Since that information isn’t in front of you when booking a charter flight, you might think it is significantly more complicated. However, chartering a private jet is way easier than you think. You don’t need to choose from a list of available flights because you’re setting the schedule.
Just like booking an airline ticket, you just need to enter your route and schedule and request a quote, which can be done online or by contacting a professional flight consultant. Then you just sit back to have a coffee and wait for the quote. If you are happy with the quote you receive, you can just pay for it and get ready to fly! If not, just simply request another quote!
6. Private jet charter is for select clients only.
Have you ever seen a private jet and thought some famous rock star or football player was going on vacation? You wouldn’t be alone in that assumption, but you also would probably be wrong.
The majority of private jets are chartered by business people and regular people like you who are excited to go on an adventure. There are no exclusive clubs to join and you don’t have to meet certain criteria to charter a flight. Anyone can request a quote for a private jet charter and book it.

7. Private jets have very limited routes and schedules.
This one is so far from the truth that it’s laughable. In fact, you have far more destination options with private jets than you do with commercial airlines. Why?
In addition to being able to operate out of commercial airports, private jets can also use smaller private jet airports. There are nearly 10 times as many private airports as there are big commercial ones in the U.S. alone.
Also for this reason, you can usually get a lot closer to your final destination in a private jet. For example, Teterboro Airport is only 20 mins drive from Manhattan, New York, while John F. Kennedy International Airport is about 1 hour.
8. Security is a pain to deal with.
This misconception couldn’t be farther from the truth. If you’re used to flying commercial, you’re used to horrendously long security lines that threaten to keep you from getting to your flight on time.
But with private jet charter, security screening and boarding are very simple. You just need to show up at the airport 20 mins before your scheduled time with your ID or passport in hand and head for your flight. No fuss, no muss.
